The Woolloomooloo Women’s Housing Project won the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) Award for Excellence in Affordable Development and a Commendation for Excellence in Small Scale Infill Development, announced on 2 August.
This project provides 20 dwellings which are purpose-built for, and managed by the Women’s Housing Company. The judges were impressed by the partnership with the NSW Land and Housing Corporation and described this exemplar development as providing a life-changing sanctuary for single older women with a wonderfully landscaped courtyard and a range of other facilities. Overall, the project presents as a distinctively modern, yet compatible form of affordable housing development in a heritage conservation area.
What a win for social housing - demonstrating social purpose and design excellence in one. Thank you to the NSW Land and Housing Corporation. We look forward to many more successful partnerships to address the housing needs of women.
