2024 Scholarships

For women on limited incomes, taking steps to improve their circumstances through study is often easier said than done. This is why our Patron, the Hon. Ros Kelly AO, introduced and funded the Women’s Housing Company Education Scholarship Program. Following the immense success of the first round in March, awarding scholarships to the new recipients last week was an uplifting experience.

The Women’s Housing Company (WHC) Scholarship Program, launched by our Patron, aims to help tenants and their children achieve their goals and realise their full potential by supporting their educational journeys. Through this programme, WHC fosters personal growth, skill development, and empowerment, enabling tenants to overcome education barriers and thrive in academic and professional pursuits. Education is a foundation for women and children rebuilding their lives or improving their living situations.

In this round, we awarded 16 scholarships to support educational goals, including funding for:

  • An accounting course
  • University tutoring
  • A construction course and tools
  • An events management course
  • A community services course
  • A fire protection inspection and testing course
  • Laptops

For children, scholarships supported:

  • Tutoring
  • Soccer academy enrolment
  • Swimming lessons
  • School equipment

Reflecting on the inaugural round, 30 tenants, including household members, were awarded financial support of up to $2,000 each to pursue their educational aspirations. The initiative significantly enhanced wellbeing, economic stability, and academic participation. Notably, 83% of recipients reported an improved financial situation, and all participants experienced increased confidence and wellbeing.

We are excited to support the achievements of this new group of scholarship recipients and look forward to sharing their successes.
